Spot welding it on is the proper solution. If that is not feasable then I bet JB Weld will hold it on there.

drill a hole in the tab and spot weld it in place in that hole with a couple of short hits from a mig welder. grind the weld down smooth and only you will know what you did.

Would the mig discolor the chrome. The tab has 2 holes now where it was spot welded, the guy I talked to at the body shop this afternoon said I would have to drill the holes a bit larger; but was unsure about discoloring the chrome. I live in a small town and no one seems to have a spot welded. There is a large furnace contractor up the road a few miles in a larger community that has a spot welder. thanks for the advice.

You can drill the two spotwelds through the Valve Cover out to 1/8",tape off the area, apply hi temp, oil resistant RTV,and then using 1/8" Pop Rivet the stand back on.Drill out one hole at a time so you don't have a problem lining up the holes. If you have cleco's,you can drill both holes. That's what I did.If you have questions just ask.
