How can i find out what type of big block it is, what type of trans, and what type of ten bolt is in the car?

the car came from the factory as a base 307 chevelle. previous owner converted it to a big block with powersteering (i’m assuming 396, he said it was a 454 but his friend who sold it to me said it was a 396). the transmission is an automatic (i’m assuming a three speed [P,R,N,D,2,1]). the differential cover has ten bolts so... i’m assuming it’s a ten bolt.

(also what’s the difference between a turbo automatic trans and a power glide?)

On the passenger side in front of the cylinder head is a flat pad should have numbers and letters stamped on it, also on the back of the engine where the transmission bolts up will be casting numbers.
Powerglade is a 2 speed turbo 350 and 400
Is a 3 speed.
On the front of the axle tube there should be stamped numbers.
Go on chevellestuff.net. there are awesome examples.

Or, at least 'bookmark' the ones of interest. Down load and save any interesting attachments. I'm 72 and I know how to do that; I've got SOOOO MANY; organized in 'folders'.
