Anyone use the Hotchkis HD Tie Rod Sleeves? I can thread mine in (by hand) about less an inch or so on each side. Just wondering if others do this as well and if normal.

The outer jam nuts thread all the way fine though... just seems that the sleeves themselves should thread in further.

Thx.

i had that same problem on my cousin's 69 Camaro- when he had the tie rods that came with a cheap front end kit, they threaded in nice all the way. but when he upgraded to beefier Moog tie rods, they only go in about 3/4" or so which isn't enough to get the tires straight. lack of money forced him to quit working on it and the car is in storage, so we haven't figured out what to do about it. i told him to just get some stock replacement sleeves and sell the Hotchkis pieces, but he's dead set on using them because they look cool and he spent a lot for them 6 years ago.

one other thing- the factory powder coating or paint or whatever Hotchkis uses on them started to flake off when the car sat in an unheated shed for 3 years. the car never ran, and no tools were used to put the tie rods together so the finish was pristine when he put the car away. when he pulled it back out last spring to work on it, the links were rusting and he had them recoated with the control arms and subframe.

Been there, done it. You have to CRANK them on with a wrench. I thought I was doing something wrong, but buddy Bill('s Camino) said, CRANK EM ON WIMPY!

Even had Hotchkis send me another (complimentary...Tip of Hat to them) set, same same.

As I was told, rule of thumb is to match them up to your old tie rod ends and sleeve set-up to get close, then do an alignment.

And yes the lock nuts spun on like some jeweler made them.

Hope that helps.

I have the Edelbrock tie rod sleeves they will adjust in and out enough to see toe-in and out.

I do have premium Napa tie rods and steering components.
They are the same size as the originals.
