Did you guys check out the fine print in the lower left corner of page 40 of the February 2006 HOT ROD Magazine? It states:

"We're issuing a challenge to all the wannabe's out there; put up or shut up at our Pro Touring shootout. Details to be announced later."

Sounds pretty interesting. :D

sounds like what Car Craft calls the "Real Street Eliminator" to me.
...time to welcome "Hot Rod" to the 1980s. ;)

If it's anywhere close... and my car is done... and I'm not broke... or out of vacation days... I'll enter  :D

There are quite a few Pro Touring types on this site. I wonder who the "wannabe's" and the "road warriors" are?

Who do you guys think has the baddest PT Chevelle or El Camino who could take the title?

I think most of them are unfinished projects at this time.

I think it also depends on the rules...

Some equate Pro-Touring with ultimate handling/braking , and some equate it with "overall" performance (including comfort and looks)...

Do a search for member "Scotty". I think he would be up towards the very top of the list. Twin turbo'ed LS engine making over 1000 hp and every bit streetable.

I have heard that it is an invite only event, in the mid west, with a single driver putting the cars through the paces.
I know only a few details that I cannot discuss, but let's say the track is killer, the driver is very good, and the field of cars is impressive.

"invite only"? That's lame... In other words, anyone that hasn't spent a gadgillion cubic dollars on their ride, and hobnobs with magazine editors, can forget it. I'm sure the cars are impressive, but the whole thing will probably be of little value to us 'normal' folks beyond entertaining reading.

...which is precisely why I will never buy a Hot Rod subscription.

Car Craft gets it. Real people, realistic cars, built on realistic budgets.

This is correct, it is an invite only event and all the cars were selected quite a while ago. As you can guess it is a who's who of the PT world, lots of big names or up and coming builders. It isn't really a stret fighter or RSE type event, more of a pro-bling event with some driving. There are no everyday-well-done street cars, they are all trailer queens.

You have got to be kidding me!?!?!? That's what this is going to be? The Westminster of Pro-Touring? Gag me. The same professional driver for each car? The driver is 90% of the equation! This is truly lame.

Gee, sounds interesting  I wonder if they'll all have to take pit-stops for a fresh coat of armor-all on the tires? :D
