In 2000 I bought a 1969 chevelle 2 door sedan, from a guy in oklahoma. He had already installed a 454 4 speed and 12 bolt posi. I got the car home and decided to do a copo clone. I installed the correct ls6 intake, cast iron exhaust and steel wheels with dog dish caps. After awhile I decided put air in the car since I reside in Fl. A couple of years later --2003-- My son and I started making plans to do the 04 Power Tour. I had Keisler install a 5 speed overdrive making the car much more user friendly. On the tour in Oklahoma city, a guy, Curt Cunningham started bugging me to sell the car. I told him it wasn't for sale. but he finally made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I sold him the car and a year later I started having sellers remorse. I owned several chevelles after that but I always wished I had never sold that one. I kept in touch with Curt over the years and one day he told me he had sold it to George Poteet The collector in Arkansas. At least I knew the car had landed in good hands and would be taken care of although the previous owner had also taken very good care of it. Fast forward to April 2013. I'm sitting at home and the phone rings. It's a friend of mine from Chicago, Dan Vasic. I got to know Dan over the years because I now owned a 1969 SS sedan and he owns the registery for these cars. He started asking me about my old car and the proceeded to tell me it was going to be sold at Mecum in Indy on May 15th. Right away I got on Ebay and placed an add for my SS. I was able to sell the car in about 2 weeks. Right away I booked a flight to Indy and was able to buy My old friend back. She was gone for nine years and was hardly worse for wear thanks to the two previous owners. She's back home now and not going anywhere except to my son someday. I want to give special thanks to Curt Cunningham and Geroge Poteet for the care they gave her over the years. Some of you may remember the car as it was featured in Chevy Hi Performance Magazine in 2005 under the article called Plain Brown Wrapper. Anyway thats my story and I still have to look in the garage often to make sure it's really back. I talked to Curt and he offered to by the car back AGAIN. but I told him--not this time! She's here to stay now.
I'm a mess when it comes to posting pics. Don't quite have the hang of it. I have some in my album of my SS and one of the old car but can't figure how to move them to the post. I'll take any help I can get
For some reason the picture can't be seen if you are using Mozilla. but can be seen in internet explorer. Also I tried to find the article but was unable to do so--don't know why
Curt said when the economy took a dump a few years ago he lost some of his buildings. George had been after him to sell the car,so he finally did. He wasn't aware that George had decided to sell it; which turned out to be my good fortune.
I have a dozen small 400x300 pictures of that car that I downloaded in February 2003 from an e-Bay auction. The seller was gkvette in Florida. George? Anyway, the auction ended without reserve being met.
The car has a complete and correct 300 Deluxe interior, plus a radio block-off plate.
Thanks for all the positive comments guys. Talked to my son the other night and he is going to be the next owner when I'm done with it. After all, we all are just keeping them until the next owner comes along anyway. Don
