AS the title says, where are you guys mounting the ECU? I'm doing a swap in a customers 71 Malibu and trying to figure a decent place to put it. Keeping it clean and out of sight is preferable.

Last guy I saw and the way I will be doing mine is a hole behind engine low in the firewall bellhousing area. I will temp mount my Vintage air to locate ecu .

behind the glove box or on the trans tunnel under the dash. I know one guy who put it in the center console but not all cars have one. most installs I have seen are behind the glove box.

It won't fit anywhere near the glove box with the AC unit in there. I'd rather have it under the hood TBH.

Is it sealed like the holley and micro squirt? I forget if that unit is water resistant? I know of MSD boxes mounted on the inner fender well but not a aftermarket ECU.

The last ‘72 we did i mounted the termiantor x max ecu high on the firewall over the vinatge air evaporator unit. Will require the dash pad to be out at minimum. I did it with the dash out. Wiring harness goes down to the top passenger corner of the trans tunnel and goes thru an Earls “Seals It” grommet.

Probably could have gotten it to fit under the driver side dash but already had too many components mounted in that area, ie Dakota HDX module, Dakota GPS module, Dakota Holley BIM interface, Dakota cruise control for DBW, and the EC003 keyless entry module.

Here’s a few pics.

Here is the mounting without the vintage air evaporator (that’s what the big metal bracket is for in the pic). You can see where the harness comes through the top corner of the trans tunnel with the Earl’s gasket. I used Velcro to keep the ecu in place temporarily before hard mounting it. I also re-did the holley harness a bit to get all the flying lead wires, input/output harness, fuel pump relay, fuel pump fuse, CAN connection and power tap all to exit the harness about 12in from the ecu. This places all the connections inside the car under the dash out of the way. (Had to pull back the insulation so it looks kinda of shoddy around the tunnel)

Now with the vintage air back in with the other wiring. The main Holley relay and fuse you can see now mounted over the Vintage Air unit where they exit the harness. This can be easily accessed by taking the dash pad off vs having to be a contortionist and go from under neath.

In the engine bay is an option too, even the instructions suggest it can be done, so long as you mount the ECU with the plugs down, and keep it away from anywhere that would get hot or wet. Here's my '69 as it sits with the ECU on the drivers side front fender. Granted, this will require either eliminating or relocating the washer fluid tank, if you decide to keep that system in place.

Dont know if this helps, but I tuck the MSD6AL behind the battery. Smaller unit than the ECU, but plenty of room back there in 1967.
