The 8162 is what Holley called a Competition carb. It has no choke, 4 corner idle and drilled throttle plates for more idle airflow.(bigger cams)
The 4781 is the standard 850 double pumper with primary idle mixture screws, mechanical choke, etc.

Thank you Gary, I used to have a 4781 that worked fine on my Nova, but now I have a friend that wants to sell me a 8162 for my Chevelle and neither of us knew the difference between the two carbs.

uh...71-454, On behalf of many of the people that post requesting information on this board I would like to inform you that sarcastic statements telling people to use google don't help and are of no value.

For your information I already have that Holley PDF and all it says is there is a jet size difference. What I was looking for was the valuable information that Gary was kind enough to post in regards to the idle circuitry and the general designed use of this carb. I was informed that the 8162 has a 4 corner idle circuit, is choke less and Holley called them Competition carburetors. (I found the choke less info on another board) Unlike the 4781 which has a two idle circuit, a choke and is designed as a street double pump carburetor. Once again thank you Gary for your information it is helpful people like you that make this board a valuable asset to our Muscle car community.
