Hello all,

This is probably a dumb question to guys with more experience, but I am recovering my first set of seats in a 65 and wanted to know if the hog rings go through just the fabric that is sewn on the edge of the covers, or if they go through the vinyl on the edge too. My seats had all been redone with fabric that someone made, so they didn't have the original covers to compare it to.

Thanks for the help.

The hog rings can go anywhere there is a listing wire. They are looped through the material and listing wire all in one move. A listing wire is either a metal/plastic or fabric wire that slides into a loop that is formed into the bottom edges of the seat covers. If you don't have them in your new covers (transferred from the old covers) then you need to put them in. If you don't have any at all you can acquire some from a big box store or somewhere else. They won't be sold as listing wires just 1/8 or so diameter wire.

BLM,

Thanks for the reply. I got the TMI sport seat covers, and they don't have the listing wires in the cloth loop on the bottom of the covers, and the old homemade covers were just cloth folded and hog ringed to the seat frames. I'll get some wire for the bottom loop and I should be good to go.

Thanks again.

There is a sleeve at the bottom, but no opening in the rear seat cover, so I wasn't sure if it was supposed to have a listing wire or not. The covers I took off were homemade, so there were no wires anywhere, and it makes it hard to replicate the original installation. I just have to get time to find the right kind of wire now. I have spools of mechanics wire, but I think it is too easy to bend. I'm going to try to find some wire that is a little stiffer. I was thinking electric fence wire might be just right, and I think it's galvanized too. Thanks everyone for the help.

Well, started on the rear seat bottom tonight, and got a big surprise... Whatever seats were in my 65 SS are definately not 65 seats. I started to put the new cover on, and it is about 5" wider than the seat frame. I kind of remember thinking the rear seat had too big of a gap on the sides, but never thought much of it. It clips into the car real nice, so I never would have thought it was the wrong seat. Now I guess I'm on the hunt for a new rear seat frame. Thanks again for the replies.

Sorry to see your seats werent correct. Once you get ahold of the correct seats, TMI is actually a member here and may be able to help you with figuring out where they want you to hogring thier seat covers to your cores.
