So you can not delete text after it has been selected by the mouse? That sounds like some kind of editting mode, where in you do not alter a document, but rather append/edit it. More of a control/revision process. But those changes shoudl show up in the right hand column (or at least changes colors).

Or, maybe you are saying that once you go to insert something in-place-of some selected text, that the newly pasted text does not over write the unwanted stuff. Rather, the new stuff just gets inserted before your selected text.

In that case, assuming that you should be able to delete anything you select, Simply delete thins before you paste things. :D Two-step process, and pretty obvious too. ;) sorry.

Along the bottom of your word window, it shows what modes are on: REC TRK EXT OVR. Normally those are grey. If any are black, double click it to deselect it.

Also, what happens if you try the same thing in notepad?

Is the document protected? (Tools> Protect Document) Try unprotceting it if it is.

All of those are grey, and the document is not protected. the same thing does not happen in notepad.

Try tools>options>general and clear the 2 checkboxes that have to do with wordperfect ("Help" and "Navagation")

Also, make sure tools>options>edit "Typing replaces selection" is checked

yay...thanks for the help. the 2 wordperfect boxes were unchecked....and that typing replaces selection box was not. im not sure how i changed that setting, it was working fine before yesterday.
thanks again!
