Okay, so a while ago I had the oil filters busting off due to high oil pressure...454 engine, high volume pump. I changed out the oil pump to a standard oil pump, using a large capacity oil filter. The pressure is right at 100 PSI...at idle, does not drop much in gear. Dont know if maybe the guage is bad, or the pressure is really that high...PLEASE HELP... Dont have exhaust or glass in the car yet, but I will drive it around my 3 acre yard a bit to see if it goes down some. Waiting to put in the head liner for the glass, then exhaust.

I really hope it is a defective guage....dont know. :(:(:(:(

What weight oil? Manual gauge or electric? If electric make sure the gauge has a good ground or it will read 20-30 psi higher. If manual you may want to try a different one just to be sure its not the gauge.

My 454 / 468 uses 6 Quarts of 15W40 ShellRotellaT HD# 5072666 / 15W40 Brad Penn, Filter= NAPAProSelect# NSF21060
and Oil Pressure Ranges around –
at idle = 40 to 50 lbs at cruising = 50 lbs at wot = 50 to 60 lbs .

That 100 oil pressure seems way to hi to me .

No, they aren't.

Used on zillions of oil pressure gauges for the last forty years or more. Routed properly, AWAY from heat and chafing, they can last for decades.

Lots of folks complain about the nylon tubes AFTER they've failed to route them properly; the tube gets the blame instead of the installer.

Fixed the issue...bad gauge, it was the same guage I had before I swapped out the oil pump. It was pegging out past 100. Swapped out the oil guage and now she is hummin at 45 at idle! Soooo excited. Tommorow getting the exhaust in, still need to tackle the headliner, then glass! Be driving her on the roads by June! Look out!...

Thanks for ALL the help!

Hey Jason,

Great to see that you're making progress. You'll be on the road just in time to hit the summer shows around here... lame as they are, though.:(

Keep us posted.
btw, have any pics?

If your doing the headliner yourself, Just take your time and make sure you have plenty of clips to hold it in place after you get it up in place. I spent about 25 hours on mine and it turned out nice but it could have been a little tighter in a couple of places.
