This is the Super Sunkist. A Chevelle that destined for strip only action (ha ha) since it was brand new. The 396 came out and a 425 HP 427 was installed from Gibson Chevrolet in Monesson Pa., A competitor of Yenko Chevrolet. Jere Stahl built the headers, converter and few other tricks. Jenkins Competition was also involved and the car tuned by Dave Wince. It ran in the S/S A class & won many championships. This car roamed thr streets of my neighborhood constantly for tuning and testing purposes ;) Seeing and hearing this car was just an awesome sight that's been permanantly been imprinted upon my soul.

Enoy the circa 1971- ish picture with the 'street tires' bolted on. Anyone care to guess what size tires & wheels those are out back?

BTW didn't you have more pics of this car?
Yep!

The Super Sunkist was always flat towed by that blue 68 Chevelle you see in the background of the 1st picture.

That is so cool, I love seeing pictures of old Chevelles when they were new. I wish I had some pictures of my Chevelles when they were new.

Awesome! They didn't figure out back spacing on Cragars until the mid 80s. How did you guys purchase wheels without the internet? :D
You actually trusted the guy behind the speed shop counter! (That statement doesn't make sense in today's world)

And then you did what you had to do to make em fit ;)

Yep! This was my neighbor's car. When they bought it, I was 8 years old. By 71, I was 10 and VERY much into cars. They owned that car and raced it up until 1976 or so. So by the time I was 15 I was hanging out in thier garage and very much interested in ALL the muscle cars in my neighborhood. Mustangs, Pontiacs and a hemi Cuda was the rare sight, while Chevrolets ruled the streets where I grew up. Countless Chevelles, Camaros and 427 Impalas were The most revered cars around.

What does my birth date have to do with it?

Jimmy, some people missed out on being the garage rat kid soaking up all the neighborhood hot rods. By the time I was 12 I knew where all the cool local hot rods lived, and the guys who would put up with some kid peddaling up on his bicycle to ask a million questions. Years later people ask me where I learned all this stuff.

My brother had a 69 SS that he bought when I was in the 7th grade and by the time I was in the 9th grade (he was in the 12th) I was helping him work on it and learning about cars. At the end of his 11th grade year he pulled the motor and started rebuilding it and his 12th grade year I was spending every day after school helping him put it back together and searching junk yards for parts. The 69 was origionally blue w/white bench seat and a 4spd but we converted it to buckets and console and painted it orange. Seeing this 69 and it being orange sure brings back alot of plesant old memories!!! My brother sold the car and i later found it in a junkyard and it had been rolled several times and the only salvageable parts left on it was the metal inner fenders which I got and are now in my 71.

Thanks for bringing up these plesant memories!!!!!

Hey! The original owner of my current car sent me another picture of him standing in front of the Chevelle. Here, it has mags, the wheel well mouldings are gone as well as the D-80 stripe. I just love these old pictures to show how these cars REALLY looked in their prime.
