It's test time again next Friday. This time it's the 406 test No. 3 with a

12:1 .030 400, cast crank, and 5.7 GM rods
Ported Dart 215 Non-platinum heads, 1.5 Sharp rocker and a Crane stud girdle
Crane Solid Roller cam .626 lift 260°I and 270°E duration on a 106° LCA
Ported 300-25 Strip Dominator
Will start the day with the old reliable 750 DP I used in the past and then test 4 different carb inc. 2 new
ones that I really want to try along with the 1000 Mighty Demon.
Wonder what this 406 will do over the Vortec 406 from last year, in '98 this 406 ran 10.80's wit Sportsman II heads.

Sounds nasty .
You dyno that motor ?

Race weight?
Converter & rear gear?
Same a last outing 8"4800 stall TCI and 4.10 gear. I thought about putting in the 4.88's but the better of me said to just run it the way it is. Funny thing, when I ran this cam and the old Sportsman II heads the engine was a narlly nasty blaping cam at idle, but with these heads it actually sounds much better and smell great with 110 in the tank again.

What do you think wouid happen with 4.88?
Finish a 400 to 600 rpm higher ?
Think it'd hook with that gear ?

Yup a little higher trap speed and a better 60ft. time I am thinking. Might have to wait on that one though after this test it's on to the L-29 Vortec head test next to see if the ported ones are better than my ported 360 peanut port heads, all else the same.

I would think lower or the same mph and lower et with the .88's
Either way, will be waiting for results as usual. (y)
I think with the compression and cam it will like the 1k carb better than the 750. Especially if you ever do the 88's.

What about the deeper gear makes you figure possible lower ET ?
Curious
