Ok went to the machine shop today, talked to a really awesome guy who was very understanding of my situation (college, tight on money, looking to do it right but not spending money on anything I don't need).

He quoted me $1761 for the complete assembled 383, shortblock, internally balanced, .030 over, 10:1 compression with 64cc heads, cleaned, washed, etc., new cam bearings, cam installed, timing chain/cover installed, new oil pump (cheap and just for reassurance), basically everything inside the block replaced/checked.

The price of $1761 includes the Iron Eagle stroker kit, which is $850 including shipping to the shop, $700 for the actual machine work assembly etc. than the additional 261 covers tax, and the small parts such as the oil pump and cam bearings.

I need to buy the cam seperate and give it to him with my engine when it goes in, which leads me to picking out which cam for this combo:

383 shortblock
10:1 compression
Trickflow 64cc heads, 195cc intake ports
Performer RPM Intake
Speed Demon 650 VC carb
1 5/8 Hooker Headers
HEI Distributor

Bolted to a m20.

I'd like to come out of this with at least 425hp, and really like the Voodoo cams but they are a bit expensive compared to the competition. The rear was gonna be next but obviously spinning a bearing throws quite a kink in the situation, eventually 3.55's will go out back. Paying for all of it is still going to be a miracle, I already picked up extra hours at work to help..

A Voodoo 60104...best bang for your buck!! Perfect for your project.
276/284; 233/241 @ .050"; .504/.525"; 110/106

That XE Comp stuff is old... :noway: Mid range MUCH improved with the Voodoo.
UDHarold/Lunati have done back to back testing between the two cams.

"stock Vortec heads" is shown in your signature.
If truely bone STOCK, you're limited in the valve lift dept.
Sorry Robyn! ;)
Sooo...a Voodoo 60101 is about all you can do there...256/262; 213/219; .454/.468" (w 1.5 rockers); 112/108
BTW...I've run 4 different Voodoo cams...NEVER a lifter issue. Proper break in procedure is all it takes.
Throw on a set of better springs and increase the guide boss/retainer clearances and I'd say a Voodoo 60103 ;) with that stall/gearing.

well I had my head up my bu$$ when I said stock I do have .525 lift springs. that's the only way a 274 cam would work with my combo, I also installed guide plates, and hardened push rods, other then that the heads haven't been touched.

Great, i was leaning toward that cam too, according to desktop dyno should make me 450/460, with 430ft/lbs from 2k on, which would be awesome, should sound good too.

Ordered the cam, head gaskets, intake gaskets, waterpump gaskets, basically now that all that is out of hte way I can start saving up for the shortblock, hopefully will have her in the machine shop in 4 weeks :)
