I have been looking on and off at a Chevelle Convertible for the past 12 years. Recently I started looking again because I sold one of my other collector vehicle (vw bus). I have no experiences with Chevelle or domestics except that I don't want a rust bucket. Every chevelles that I am interested in, the owners claim to not have bondo or rusts. I find this hard to believe because after 40 or something years, the chance of accidents, weather , etc...will find its way eventually. Since most of the vehicles that I am interested in are far away, there is no way for me to verify the claims.

So what are the major problems that I should be looking for when inspecting a convertible. I am assuming the quarter panels and trunk like most convertible cars.

I have been checking on Ebay and craigslists for the past couple of week but majority of them are in the 20-30's. I am seeing people here buying them in the teen's (been searching on the forum).

So are there other sites that I can search for one?

There is one that I found looks good for 19k but seeing that it is in Illinois, I am afraid that it is a rust bucket. Especially at that price.

Thanks.

I would agree, with all the upgrades, something is too good too be true on this car. Also no mention of "rust free" in the ad. Be interesting to know if anyone has looked at this car and knows why its not listed higher?

And... yes, my convertible needed new quarters. Luckily it was a Vegas car most of its life and the rust was kind too me on the rest of the car.

Look under rear seat (remove the seat) and at the base of the A pillars (remove the cover and probe at the base where it meets the dash). Both areas are really prone to rust on a 'vert.

My 72 convertible was advertised as almost rust free and it was as advertised .It had 2 very small spots (one on each quarter panel) about the size of a quarter .It also was listed as having no bondo and this too was true so they are out there in good shape .Mine was a garage kept old lady car for many years and after she died it sat for many years .I paid top dollar at the time but being mostly rustfree was worth it to me as I cant do rust repairs .
