Someone with a big block please help me with your suggestions on a camshaft. 454,closed chamber heads with sone port work, 9.5comp, th700, 3:42 rear end, all accessories including ac. Weekend car, thinking of something not to radical like 218-228 @50 500-500? What do you guys suggest or have in your combination?

One of the most overlooked factors in cam selection is the toqure converter stall. I like to have my cams come into there power band 300-500 RPM before stall. If after it will be a dog as you are not getting any toqure muliplication. There are many other factors involved but this is one of the most basic.
NOTE; many cars are over camed because guys think they are launching 2400 lbs. instead of 3800 lbs. If your car is full dress then work on bottom end it's no use going to 7000 rpm if you have already lost the race on the launch.

Given what Harley said, your specs look OK. My 427 was run with a 2600 stall, in a Camaro ( 3150 lbs) and 3.73 ( T400 ). It has a Crane (solid ) with 238/248 @0.050 and it was just enough stall. Just. If you have the stock converter in you might want to stay below around. But .550 lift would be OK. My crane is a dual pattern and with the more shrouded CC heads ( vs. open)I would also consider a dual pattern cam.

Sorry forgot to mention the car is in full dress and is a 72 convertable. The stall will be around 1,500. The cam I mentioned above is a dual pattern ground on 114 lobe centers. Any similar combos out there? Thanks for the help
