I have a 64 chevelle. I'm trying to put the spindle back on my lower balljoint. It just won't go. I've tried all angles and it just keeps getting stuck on the shoulder of the balljoint. The lip on the outside of the brake backplate seems to be getting in the way of the lca. I had this same problem when I did this before.

The balljoints are in the control arms and the arms are back on the frame. I'm trying to put the spindle and control arms together.

If you leave the backplate loose then put the spindle first then the back plate, might be a little easier. I forgot you can remove the spindle from the top BJ then drop it onto the lower and re-do the top.

I was having trouble just getting the bottom on by itself. I'm putting SPC upper and lower arms with the Howe tall upper and lower balljoints on. I guess they don't fit quite so well with drums. Tomorrow, I'm going to have to pull off the backing plate and grind a little bit off. Right now, the plate rubs on the lower ball joint from about 70% full lock. I don't think there would be a problem with discs. I got the one side on, but it was a royal pain. I think with factory ball joints, it might have been ok. I'm looking forward to see the ride height when it's finished. I used one 1/4" spacer in the LCA. I hope that's enough. It looks like a regular pickle fork won't get these BJs loose.
