To quickly recap how I've got here

- Initially interested in first gen Firebirds
- Then got interested in second gen Camaros
- Now interested in looking at Chevelles

What I'm looking for in a car

- Body is clean (rust/problem free) - this is the most important factor
- Power

What the car will be used for

- Cruiser
- Something to tinker/toy with

Now, I'll introduce to you some of the candidates

1969 454 Chevelle

I do not like the vinyl top

1969 350 Chevelle
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/3892235542.html
Looks clean BUT the 350 I don't think is going to be able to give me the wanted power

1970 454 Chevelle

When looking at the additional pictures, it looks as though there may be some bubbles in the paint due to rust

Of course any suggestions or comments would be appreciated!

I like them both. I think they're both nice but it all becomes a matter of taste. Since they're both 454's with TH400 transmissions, it all comes down to which body style you prefer the '69 or '70, but whatever your choice, you can't go wrong with either of them.;)

Good luck,

Claude.

The 69 car links are for the same car. IMO the 70 is a better deal even though it has issues. For the 5k difference there is a lot that could be fixed/added. The 69 looks shinier but the stripes gotta go. Both being non SS cars the 70 would be a better Value. A 69 wannabe SS is not worth almost 19k IMO. You could find better.

If the second link was this supposed to be this car:

IMO that is a better deal.

This is the third time over the last several months the 70 in Vegas has been brought up in this section. There is likely something seriously wrong with it for it not to have sold by now. Check out the 69 near santo Cruz, if the underlying body work is nice and the car is well out together the price is in the ballpark.

Sorry guys, the second car was actually supposed to be a different link (http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/3892235542.html)

I've updated the original thread with the updated link.

In regards to those cars you've brought forward to me, my only worry is the fact that they have 350's and I'm worried the 350 is not going to be enough "headroom" for the future. I've had 4-5 400rwhp+ cars (Stage 3 Audi S4, 1994 Single Turbo RX7, two LS2 GTO's, etc.) and the last thing I want to do is get a muscle car that isn't going to satisfy the want for torque/power.

If I had a 350, didn't think I had enough power, then I'd end up buying a larger motor (or FI) which means additional money. So my thought process is, start with the best motor I can begin with as my starting point.

Lastly, the "downfall" with the car in Santa Cruz is that the "shifter" is in the column. If I'm going to be stuck with an automatic, I'd like to have the ratchet shifter in the floor.

EFI doesn't mean more power, especially a TPI. It's interesting there is no picture of the engine in the black 69 from Sacramento. Having a small block doesn't mean the car won't be fast, just as a big block won't guarantee it is. Take a look at each car as it is presented.

As for column shifters, you can purchase a floor shifter, there is a wide variety available in the neighborhood of $200, or less.
