I attempted on my own to find out what this T-10 was out of, but was unsuccessful. If anyone can get a fix on what it is out of it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help. :beers:

Sorry for the brief description before hand. I was in kind of a rush.

I picked that T10 and a Saginaw up for $20 a while back. I was told that reverse had trouble, but couldn't get what the problem was nailed down. I pulled the side cover off tonight. Turns out reverse is fine, but third gear has two teeth broken off. That is part of the reason I need to identify which T10 it is. When I was doing the searching I found they had several different gear spreads for the T10 four speed. I would hate to get the wrong gear for this thing.

If it isn't able to be identified will I be able to just count the teeth on the gear to get a fix on which ratio to get? Or can gears have the same number of teeth but a different ratio?

I know this is a half way old post. I've been doing more searching, and was able to get some more information on the trans. The "WG DIV" stands for Warner Gear Division, and I was able to nail down the casting date on the main case and side cover. It is February 10th, 1959. I am still not able to figure out what car it might have come with.

Given the pictures I posted would it be possible to determine what kind of car this is out of?

I was just able to locate a page for a 1959 Corvette. It has got the same numbers on the case (T10-1), tail housing (T10-7A) and side cover (T10-148A) Did the T10's get the same numbers, or were Vette only trans specefic?

I appreciate that link. But the third gear is not what I am looking for right now. I am trying to find out what the transmission might have come out of. ;)

Thanks, Mike. I will go out to storage tomorrow and get the trans. I'll get some pictures of the area in question. Is there anything you can tell from the numbers that are displayed?

WC2792. That is the stamping.
W = Warner Gear
C = March
27 = day
9 = 1959
2 = 2nd shift

In 1959 both full size Chevrolets, and Corvette, were available with an optional 4-spd transmission. There is no way to know which this transmission may have been installed in because partial VINs were not stamped on the cases. That practice did not begin until the 1960 calendar year with the 1960 Corvette (mid-production), if I recall correctly.

Thank you for the info. It is definitely a GM four speed. Now comes the inhevitable question. Might it be worth anything once it's rebuilt, or is it just another old common four speed? Third gear needs replacing, and I was thinking if I did that I might as well order a rebuild kit to go with it.
