Ihave a 396 would like to install HEI. ON my smallblock the rotor points to number 1 on horse power tv on the big block it look to me it was pointing to 2 or 4 did they goof or is it the same as the small block help would be great thanks from DDP in Canada
The rotor should point to a few degrees before #1 when the #1 piston is at TDC of the compression struck i.e. both valves are shut.
That's correct to the best of my meager knowledge. I didn't see the particular shot on TV you're talking about, so I can't say if they goofed up or not. Maybe it looked like it was pointing to another cylinder because they had a lot of advance on it. That's the way I'll be doing it when I take the HEI from my 350 and into my 396.
