Here are the part numbers for the HEI terminal and connector. These are the wire ends that clip onto the cap. Available from your GM parts dept.
If you're hooking up a tachometer wire to the dist cap, you need these parts.
The brown plastic connector locks onto the cap to keep the wire from falling off. The brass terminal clips into the plastic connector and fits the spade in the cap perfectly. I don't think these are available anywhere but the GM dealer.
Don't use those solderless connectors. This is better.

The terminal comes in a pack of 10 and the connector comes in a pack of 5.

terminal
part # 12033824
Gr. # 8.965

Connector
part # 08917052
Gr. # 2.170

These are not cheap.

I should have noted in my first post in this thread that the brass terminal has a small tab on it that locks it into the plastic connector.
The way I have the terminal lying in the picture, you cannot see it.
After you crimp the wire to the terminal, you then push the terminal into the connector and it snaps into place.
You can get it back out by inserting a small flat blade screwdriver down inside it and depressing the tab down.

The combination of this tab on the terminal and the clip on the connector is what keeps this connection from falling off.

If you're really thrifty, you can find this on cars in the wrecking yard and snip the wire and remove the connector/terminal. You can then take them apart, open up the terminal, remove the old wiring and reuse it.
There is also a special crimper to properly crimp this terminal, although I have never used it and hear it's a little pricey. I have had good luck with a regular pair of pliers.

Thank you! My tach is hooked up with just a push on terminal. Couldn't find the plastic connector that clips on to the cap. I'm in the process of replacing the engine, cleaning up the wiring in that area was something I wanted to tackle while the engine is out. Thanks again.

Eventually it will fall off while you are driving because of the engine vibration, coupled with gravity. I guarantee it !

When doing an HEI conversion, you need 2 of each. One for the power lead and one for your tach.
Do you have the part # for the power lead connector? American Autowire does sell them and the tach connector individually for $3.00 each but once you add the shipping it's cheaper to go to the Chevy dealer and buy the 5 pack.

Thank you for posting this valuable information. I double checked my setup and sure thing they are missing from mine as well. Many thanks to you for providing the part numbers so the rest of us can correct a potential problem before it becomes a real one. :)
