A friend has a 66 Chevelle SS that he has restored. Engine is a 1970 454 - Q-Jet with 4-spd. He wants to install a GM HEI distributor. Does anyone have any background or tips on distributor wiring, tach hookup, spark plugs and spark plug wires on this type of conversion?
Thanks

Just did this myself.Drop in dist.Run 14 gauge wire to fuse block must be 12 volts just tape reaster wire off for later use if needed.Tack wire to cap you may have fun with vacume advance with the hei they give to much advance at idel. What i did set timing to 16 btdc put in one light spring one heavey this will give you a good curve this is under the rotor.Conect vacume line to full time vacume. Now rev to 3000 rpm to set total timing depending on pump gas and so on to no more then 38 degs.Like me you may have to make a limiter for the vacume advance. Most hei gives more then the idel 12 degs anymore and it is sure to ping.
