They where just now delivered by UPS from Summit. Shipped from Ohio. Box looked decent , little banged at one end and slightly opened, but nothing to do with the scratched and scuffed tubes that will show when installed. Still in plastic bags with the plastic ruffed up in those scratch areas and looks just like if they were laying on concrete and moved and slid around a few times. Called Hedman and they said bring them by (local) and they will have them recoated. I told them I know there the coating Co. they deal with and can I deliver them to the shop (even closer to me). They said maybe so. I'm on my way...Bummer to have to deal with this tho.....

Just got back from Hedman Hedders with a new replacement 68198 set. Also noticed the grinding at the welds on the flange was much better than the scratched pair. Couldn't be happier with there service. They inspected the headers, gave me a new set and I was gone in 25 minutes. Ask for Dave in warranty if you ever run into problems..:hurray:

Rich, just a tip on installing your new headers.

The passenger side slips right in from the bottom with no drama. Just make sure the car is high enough off the ground to guide the header in. Also, have someone up top ready to grab the header and start a few bolts.

The drivers side is more difficult. The only way I have found to get mine in easily is to remove both engine mount bolts and loosen (or remove) the trans mount bolts so you can jack the engine up about 2-3 inches. If you don't, you will be fighting the steering shaft and introducing a lot of scratches.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Todd, I have been thru this with the Hookers few times. BUT, the extra weight of the Hedmans will be a problem with one person as you mentioned. I remember with the hookers I would get one bolt started from the bottom, can't remember if I was able to do that on both sides, or maybe I'm just dreaming, its been awhile.

My Hedman headers came the same way. Some of grit inside the plastic bags and scuffs on the bends from the grit rubbing on the tubes during shipping. I was very disappointed. I returned them to the supplier and had a second pair sent. They had some scuffing, but not as bad and not in noticible locations, so I kept them. I love the headers - nice heavy tube and thick flanges, very good construction. And I like the bell and ball connection versus the standard flange and gasket. I just think they need to do a little better job cleaning the headers before packaging them. I will still buy Hedmans for my next set of headers.

Looks like the set I got and took back for replacement. I noticed that even right off the shelf from Hedman Header factory there was still a few light scuffs, but nothing to complain about.

Info to anyone who gives a s--t. Just installed hedman 68198 headers on a 71 chevelle with 454 and 307 frame mounts and 307 energy suspension motor mounts. The Headers fit EXCELLENT with room to spare. Tuck up decent compared to the banged up low hanging hookers I took off. BB motor mounts and frame brackets NOT Needed as long as you use ES motor mounts

I have Hedman Elites- I'm very pleased with them. On my 69 they tuck up as tight as stock exhaust. The coating can be wiped clean if you get oil or even a burnt boot on it. Do need to be careful about the real scratches (I caused) though. Not sure how to seal those so they don't get worse.

Yeah, Hedmans look good. Tuck up much nicer than the Hookers. Little hassle on the drivers side and the passenger side went in blind folded, no scratches at all as I had them covered with blue tape in the contact areas, plus I had cardboard covering my cross member and other points of contact like the steering rod, and it worked for me. After install and before starting the engine and removing tape I wiped all the pipes down to clear any grease marks from hands and residue from the tape that might stain the coating. Had the car flat bedded to the muffler shop for free by the So Cal auto club.
And a little difference in exhaust note and rev's quicker with these headers
