I'm doing mine this weekend. Removing the inner fener well is recommended by most. Although I've heard that some have done it without. You'll need the right size ratcheting box wrench to squeeze in there. It's probably much easier just to unbolt the inner fender well..... That's my plan. PS keep the screws on the heater box straight - I've read they are different sizes.

I replaced the heater core on my 70 a couple of months ago. I removed the assembly without pulling the inner fender. On reinstallation I ended up having to remove the Inner fender. So, I would recommend removing it from the start to avoid prolonging the job and causing frustration.

...Just my 2 cents!

I did the job last night. Don't even think of attempting this with the fenderwell on. Way too much frustration. Take the tire off, battery out, unbolt all fender bolts from inside fenderwell, removed the inner to outer front brace, remove bolt from battery tray side. If you are taking it out, also remove the running light wires, otherwise at this point you can drop it down enough to work. Draw a picture of where the heater box fastners came from, only two kinds, but they are used in different spots. Unless you are replacing the fan motor, take the squirrel cage off and lube the shaft. Have fun!
