is it ok to run heater core bypass valve on a 454 big block,i want to put it inline with the 5/8 inlet hose coming out of the intake manifold and going into the heater core on a 71 chevelle ,so theres no circulation going thru my heater core , so my cab is a little cooler in the summer, will this create any unnessacary pressure in cooling system???

As long as you have the OEM-style bypass hose from intake manifold to water pump, you could install an in-line water valve without problem.

Why not fix the air doors in the dash/heater box instead?

I agree, fix the seal on the temp door. Coolant flowing through the heater core will keep it from developing leaks.

a good test to see if the problem is with the heater having coolant running through it would be to disconnect it. There may be a lot of heat coming through the firewall and floors. When I added heat and noise barriers to the Nova it cooled it off by a noticeable amount. I only did the floors but soon will be adding it to the doors and roof.
