Thanks Storm. How do you know if you have a 5 or 6 bow car? I don't know who took the headliner out of this car but thay should be shot for not keeping these pieces. Thanks for the reply.

Chris,
I would suggest you find a complete headliner with the bows. I kept my original rotted headliner with bows intact until I was ready to install the new one.

Each bow is a little different. They have different color dabs to indicate location. If someone on the site has disassembled a car for scrap, they may have what you need.

My 70 was a 5 bow car. You can tell by the holes along the inside roof. The center bow clips into the plastic clips.

i think the colors worn off my bows and my extra sets also but they are pretty easy to figure where they belong. i would think the guy who does my headliner would also check to like ed carpenter said it should be 5 bows storm.

Thanks guys, I'll take some pics of what I have in my car and maybe someone can let me know what I have. I got some bows out of a salvage yard, I did know enough to mark them. I think if my car is a 6 bow car I'm in trouble, the donor car was a 5 bow set up I believe. Thanks for the info.

I have a '68 and went round and round about 5 or 6 bow. I've found out that I have a 6 bow, even though only 5 of them are the larger diameter bows. There was a really thin bow that was held in place by 4 clips instead of only one. It ran right under the dome light. Don't know if your year had that same possibility but something to think about.

I just read the current Super Chevy and in the Chevelle tech column written by Dick Brandt, he states that all Chevelles used 5 bows except for some 1968 Chevelle's that used 6 bows. I hope I'm remembering this right. :D

Well as my luck typicaly goes I have to work the whole weekend. I will do my best to get my pics so you guys can help me out. Do all the bows use the plastic clips? There is some sort of plastic that runs through the middle of my roof. It is in line with the dome light. Is this the only piece of plastic in the headliner? Thanks again for the responses.

Hey Chris, I did mine with the clips the way the guy in the link shows.I had it all pulled tight and it looked good. I let it sit for a couple of days and when I went back there were some wrinkles and sags.Did this a couple of more times until it stayed nice and tight.Remember to put all your scews and bolts in for sun visor, seat belts etc. before the headliner is installed. Makes them much easier to find.

Thanks for the info. I laid my headliner out to get the wrinkles out of it. I put two of the bows in the headliner and noticed that the bows were shorter than the sheath that they go into. Is this normal to have to cut the sheath or are my bows wrong? I went ahead and ordered new bows for the car. I noticed that one of mine was slightly out of whack. I gues thats part of the price you pay for salvage yard shopping. Thanks again for the help.
