have any of you had any problems with your headlights draining too many volts out of the battery? it seems that my voltmeter drops almost 2 volts when i turn the headlights on. i have already had the battery drain so that i couldn't crank the engine. i've put a new battery in, but the headlights still drain the same. if any of you have any possible solutions besides testing every wire, i'd be very happy to hear them. thank you

Is the car running when you are taking the measurement? Headlights take a lot of power. What do you measure on the large red wire on the back of the alternator: Engine running & headlights off.??

Several years ago Car Craft had a article about running the headlight circut thru a relay. These older GM's had a problem of melting the wiring under the dash mainly due to the current thats routed thru them for the starter and headlight circuits.
Check your headlight switch for excessive resistance that could be the cause of your drop
