Sounds like you may need to check your jetting and timing.

Header temps being off by a good margin indicates a difference in combustion temps. Probably due to either a fuel or an ignition problem.

Running lean will make for hot headers, and retarded ignition timing will make for a hot engine temp.

What is the engine in question? It's not a 400 block by chance is it, if so do the heads have steam holes drilled?

Duplicate?,whatever,Anyway, the rad. temp. climbed to 223 in the five minutes I was checking the temp. on header tubes,,very frustrating,,,would have gotten hotter if I didn't shut down,,four years I have fought this prob.Thats 4 yrs.Numerous thermostats, drilled & not drilled, numerous fans, with shroud & without,I have to believe all stroked motors do this,,66 Malibu maby needs a 454,,,
