Have a 400 SBC bored 40 over to 4.165".
I ordered head gaskets and they sent me 4.2" size. Will this be a problem? Never ran into this before. In the past I always had the same size gasket as bore.

No :)

And I don't know of any gasket that is bore size unless ordered that way from Cometic or a copper one special ordered.

I assume they have steam holes?

yeah they have the steam holes...they are for a 400. The ones I ordered were 4.166". Just wanted to make sure the 4.2's would be OK...thanks.

They will be fine.
You do not want to use a 4.166 gasket on a 4.165 bore
The fire ring will hang into the chamfer that was cut to install the rings & the chances of the bores being exactly where they belong in relation to the dowels are very slim unless it is a Dart or Bowtie block ;)
