i have a 93 suburban- rod knocking 5.7 , still driving it and NO check engine light! go figure

next weekend im taking a few vacation days to swap in my rebuilt motor.

its a 93 roadmaster 350, it has fresh rings in std bore, new bearings, new hv oil pump, LT1 cam (b-body roller) 191/[email protected] .050" .418/.430" lift, 9.6 to 1 comp. pocket ported 193 heads with new lt1 springs, im also going to be running a torque spacer under the tbi.

im wondering if a new performance chip would help this combo out.

this engine does have more compression, more cam, and better flowing heads (or at least i want to think that).

but im not sure what direction to go, i dont want to spend a lot of money, and since i dont have a lap top i think i need something just to plug in and go.

never bought a chip before just would like some direction.

im thinking i might need a chip because of the rebuilt engine, a chip might help the new engine run better.

I run a Jet chip in my daily driven '90 Chevy truck. It's a 355 with stock TBI heads and a small Crane cam with TBI spacer, MSD dist, Crane HI-6S box, Summit headers, Catco cat, Dyno max catback exhaust. It runs OK, but I do have some issues with it running lean from time to time and popping through the intake when I stomp on the gas.

This is a TBI motor ?? and pbly an OBD1 pcm ? I would try having your pcm reprogrammed before any hand held programer or aftermarket chip ......lots of good ones and some not so good ......try Google Nelson Performance .......he does alot of truck reprogramming worth the phone call to see what he can do for your pcm .....

Hyper tech has a chip with a programmer. You can also get your stock ecm re-flashed to custom settings.I believe one of the companies doing that is westers. Try a google search or lots of info at fullsizechevy.com

Have you tried an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

Up the pressure and I bet the popping goes away.

The chip in these computers only controls the timing IIRC.

So read the service manual on how to adjust the timing, you will need to disconnect a wire while adjusting.

Install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and up the pressure for the modified engine.

yes this is for a 1993 suburban with the factory computer running a stock tbi system. some folks said my new engine should run just fine with the factory settings.

other said i would get better performance with a chip or reprograming of the computer.

if i can just bump up the timing i can do that.

the factory has the timing set at 0 and the sticker on the truck gives direction on how to set the timing by unpluging a wire.

i dont know much about fuel injection and i would have to research where to stick a fuel pressure regulator at and what to adjust it to.

thanks for the information, its sounds like maybe i can just bypass the chip (buying one) and just adjust timing and fuel pressure.

you guys agree with that?
