Hack job on a 65

790 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  65elcamino
The previous owner of my 65 El Camino decided to get rid of the bulk heads connectors right behind the fuse box. There should be two connectors but right now all of the wires are all soldered together. Is there a way I could just buy the bulk head connectors or do I have buy all new wire harnesses.
I was thinking of making a waterproof terminal block assembly just to clean up the wiring at the fire wall or just leave it alone since everything does work except the license plate lights.

TIA,
Glenn

The bulkhead connectors are the same for both idiot lights and gauges. The gauge wire harness just has more wires running through the connectors. It would be failry simple to reinstall the bulkhead connectors with the harness pulled out of the car. You just have to make sure the wires are matched to each other on both sides of the connector. Use a wiring diagram if you want to match the original configuration. I had to correct a hack job on my El Camino, although it wasn't as bad sounding as yours. It was just cut up under the dash.
