I turned the key one day on my car and i heard a loud grinding noice. So i thought the starter was going bad, because it was an old starter, so i replaced it. But that didn't solve the problem so i decided to shim it, i bought the one that Help makes. and that still didn't work. So i replaced the flywheel and it still grindes. Could it be that i do not have a good ground or a bad battery? i have tried everything maybe u can help.

Are you using a starter brace? There is 1 kind for a BB, and 2 (maybe 3) different ones for a small block. It is also possible that one of your mounting holes is cracked. Even if it is cracked, try a brace first. Good luck.

Sounds like you've shimmed it either too close or too far away from the flywheel. Try re-shimming the starter so you can just barely fit a 1/8in drill bit between the teeth on the flywheel and the starter shaft. That always worked for me.
