I have a Traeger, which is great for smoking low n slow, but it doesn't get real hot, especially if it's windy or cold out. When I got the Traeger, I had a Broil-Mate propane, with a cast alum cook box. Loved it. Was cheap, and got plenty hot. I gave it away because I didn't think I'd need it anymore.
So now I'm in the market for a new propane unit. The Broil-Mate is unavailable, and I like ones with the cast alum cook box. Main ones I find are Weber, either the Sprit or the Genesis. Spirit is 450, Genesis is 800. Wife thinks I should get the smaller Spirit, I like the bigger Genesis, just incase I need to grill for a group.
Curious what you guys have for grills. If the $200 Menards Char Broil are decent, or any other cheaper brands, or does a guy need to spend for the Weber? Weber has 10 year warranty, so it's not a bad deal I guess. It'll be inside when not in use. Thx.

I’ve had a couple CharBroils with no complaints, not the menards size but 350-400 dollar size, middle of the road I guess, all stainless. Lasts about 6-7 years grilling year round 3-4 days a week winters, 5-6 days a week in the summer. Yes endless propane at my house. I’m not into the huge ones, just a 5 or 6 burner with a sear, the Weber’s seem nice but pricey and not sure how well they wear. Tempted to try one of those or a higher end grill in the future but there’s always that wear factor you question compared to price..

I gave up on trying to keep up with repairs after a year or 2 on the $300-$400 ones so $100 to $150 and toss'em when they give you problems

Rosinbluth, have you tried the optional blanket on your Traeger? A friend has one and he grills stuff regular style on it all the time. Easily gets up to 500 degrees.
I've heard of them, and have a friend that runs one. I dunno, it kinda irritates me that you need a blanket to cover it up and get a decent temp out of it. So, as silly as I sound, I kinda resist buying the blanket setup. Plus, I don't like the way they look on the Traeger. Almost like Trager made a mistake, so made this bandaid to cure the problem, but then charged for it.

I have given up on propane grills and bought an electric, night and day difference. Even heat, temperature control is beyond good very easy to have one side hotter and one side cooler. It has a feature to cook both sides at once speeds up cook time incredibly, very fast. And the nicest feature is that the grills can be removed and properly cleaned. Try doing that with a propane barbecue,

My back yard how looks like a catering company... I have a gas char-griller from Lowes that I think was about $250, works great, gets crazy hot and has a side burner that I really like!

I also have a Traeger, different applications and different uses, smoking and stuff at like 350, good to go. Anything that needs seared its tough to get it hot enough fast enough.

Then my wife got me a large flat top grill also because we do a lot of cooking for groups and she thought I needed one, I love making breakfast for the kids on a Saturday outside.

Yes I have 3 forms off cooking appliance in the backyard, but I have options!

I'm on my second one of these in 10 years.
I got a set of grillgrates for it and it does well. My FIL has a genesis and that things cranks, especially with the extra 'sear station' burner. would i spend the extra for the genesis compared to my little guy? not a chance.

I have a ten-year old Weber Summit (4 burner) that gets hot. 600-700 degrees. In fact, I have to be careful if I haven't cleaned the grease trap that it doesn't catch on fire (ask me how I know!)

Also have a Vision Grill for low-n-slow -- had an original Kamado, but it started falling apart after 15 years.

I'm thinking about a Green Mountain Grill -- our oldest son has one and the ribs come out fantastic!

Always had a Weber. I have my current Weber grill for about twelve years. At 9 years 10 months the burners craped out. With a ten year warranty on the burners I called Weber and they replaced them within a week at no charge. I grill in all four seasons. Weber is a great grill, great American company.

I have had several, and currently have another $99 Charbroil from Lowes.

It works perfectly, sits outside, and you can buy all the replacement parts, burners, grills, etc, easily.

I cooked for a 50 person party on afternoon after my boss forgot to reserve the real grill... No problem. That and my King Cooker.

Since it's only my wife and I, 2 years ago we bought a Blackstone Tail Gater. Its a propane grill and griddle combo. It's probably the best grill I've bought in the last 30 years.
