Well the wife's heat went out on our "06 Equinox, and it seems after some research on the net these vehicles are prone to a broken shaft in the blend door assembly locking the door in the cold position. Of course the dash needs to be disassembled to repair it:mad:.
Is there anyone on here that has dealt with this?
What other tests should I perform before tering into dash?
Do I need any specific tools?
How difficult and invasive is it?

Thanks in advance, Chris

There is a temperature door control actuator that can be accessed through the glove box hole. You will have to remove the glove box.Normally the actuators go bad.If you remove the glove box see if the actuator is moving when changing temp setting. If you remove the actuator you can check the temp door by manually turning the shaft. The actuators normally strip out.Hope this helps.

Another simple thing to check is if your heater core is clogged.
I used to have to flush mine on my '99 S10 twice a year to keep heat.
I finally had the whole system flushed by a radiator shop and refilled with green anti-freeze. No problems since.

You could also try disconnecting the battery, touch both cables together, wait 30 seconds then reconnect. Could just be logic locked.
strangely enough my coworkers husband who works at a Penske shop said the same thing. He does that to the freightliners.

When you say you use to flush it did you simply drain and refill or do you have a flushing method?

I was flushing only the heater core by taking both hoses off in the front and running water through both sides (one side at a time) until it ran clear.
An easy way to tell if it's clogged is to get the vehicle up to running temp. and touch both hoses. If one hose is hot and the other is only luke warm there is something constricting the flow.

Well I had vehicle running for a while, and felt the core hoses. Both hoses were hot to the touch. I also disconnecdted the battery cables for about an hour. Nothing has changed. I can't get heat! Also, when turn the temp control from cold to hot and vice versa I can hear an electric actuator operating, but like I said temp does not change.

The problem with your car is that the tab which holds the blend door in place broke off.It is a big job requiring not only the dash carrier coming out but also the cross brace across the a pillars has to come out.It takes a pro a solid 8 hours to complete. How many miles on your car?Did you buy it new? If bought new when?

We bought the vehicle in Aug of 06 with about 20K and it's got 89,561 miles on it now. Thinking about trading it in after hearing this but we owe 12K on it.
