if the alternator is still giving a good charge, and the fan belt it not loose, why does the light stay on?

If you're not having a problem with the battery going down a new voltage regulator probably won't help the light go out but I suppose it's worth a try.

Grandson's nova has had the light on for a few years and everything else has always worked fine.

On my '67 had a DIM alt. lamp. thought it was the regulator. changed it, light still was on dimly. Found I had a blown fuse, can't remember which on though.

Generator light on dimly is usually the diode trio.

If the light is on--there's something wrong. Period.

Could be a bad alternator/regulator, or a grounded wire to the field connector.
