I wonder if anyone here has had experience with or is using the Gear Vendors Under/Overdrive unit and the M-21 Muncie. What are the Price and Installation factors and what to expect in MPG?

I’ve ran Volvo M45 and M46 4 Spd Top Loader Transmissions with the Laycock Overdrive Units which remind me very much of the Muncie design and the Gear Vendors Unit and can testify that it is great combination. I have a few Laycock Units lying around and wonder if it’s possible to adapt one to a Muncie or if it’s even worth the effort.

I would like to run a 3.42 ratio behind a 550Hp BBC for cursing, not drag. I am not considering a TKO at the moment.

Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS.

i tried to have a GV unit installed in a 69 gto behind an M21 muncie. despite being told over and over from GV tech and sales that this would fit with no problems, it became clear upon attempted installation that i'd have to drop the crossmember and restructure the floorpan transmission tunnel in order to make it fit. Needless to say, i wasn't happy that i tried to babysit those dudes in order to accommodate the $2500 purchase i made, only to have their sales pitch proven false. ...so, i sent it back and let go of overdrive dreams in my gto. that said, this was over 5 years ago, so maybe GV has figured the fit issue out and everything is cool behind a muncie these days.
