please I need help with a tenp. gauge I have a 180 thermostat I have checked the temp. with a mechanical gauge it runs about 190 the original gauge reads 210 when warmed up it start out when cold less than the 100 it warms up to 210 and stays there unless you get stuck in traffic then it will go up to 250 or beyond but it is not that hot does anyone know why the gauge reads so high? I have replaced the sending unit two times and have even bought a new repo gauge it still reads to high????

If the gauge isn't grounded correctly (bottom post should be grounded) or if the resistor on the back is bad or the wrong value (typically it's an orange resistor)the gauge can act as you describe. The color side of the resister faces away from the gauge back plate, needs to make good contact with the top and bottom posts and the bottom post needs to be grounded. Top post is insulated from ground.
