The car is about finished with the wiring and new Dennys driveshaft installed. Just waiting for my new TCI Outlaw shifter to come in and figure out what to do with the fuel system, than I can finally run the B**TCH :hurray:

Im debating an Aluminum 15 Gal Fuel Cell or using a stock tank with an added sump and good sending unit..... what do you guys think? I like my trunk space and dont really want to cut up the trunk floor...but for a 650+HP car that will be 70% street/30% Strip....is the Cell needed? Gotta get a plan going by today so I can get parts ordered...I want to be driving by next weekend if possible!

I vote a tank with a sump.

Much easier on the wallet and getting the car back to the track.

RobbMc offers there pickup that is pretty good...has a -8 line and up for it...

If you go to a cell....you will have to build a firewall in the trunk between it and the interior to be NHRA legal.

Also will more than likely have to raise up the cell so you dont have to cut a hole in the floor.

Im in agreeance with you all. If it will work, id rather to this to keep it looking like a street car and not cut up the trunk. I plan to buy a new tank since the original is ehhh...and than weld in the comp eng sump. I will check out that Robb MC Pickup and proabably get that as well.

Thanks for the reassurance =)

Tank with sump. Chevelles have great trunks. Shame to waste the space.
I'm not sure how to add one to a used tank though. But someone can do it for you. I'd probably blow myself up!

How's things? Haven't talked to you in a while.

Ron
Hey Ron,

Things are good! Spending way more time and $ than anticipated like we all do though!!! :D Its finally to the last days...rewired the car, everythings back in, now its the fuel system and DONE and DRIVING! Hows everything over there?

If you do the sump, why do you need the pickup? Won't the lines just come out the back of the sump?
That is correct Ray.

The pickup will not be needed if you do the sump.

Maybe need to check in just how hard the car will leave.......not sure if the RobbMC has issues with cars that really 60...

A few years ago I modified a -10 (5/8") tube to exactly fit in place of the ols (3/8") tubing and then ran the -10 lineup to the front. I've used a Mallory 140 to push to the front mechanical pump (various brands) and ultimately ended up with a Carter 172 Mechanical. The Mechanical with the -10 has netted 6.60's at 103mph. I never used a gauge I could observe while going down track and always wondered if there was adequatre fuel delivery. In the quest to improve I recently purchased a Spectra Premium OEM Replacement tank from Amazon ($166 delivered) then a competition Engineering Sump From Summit ($66.) and used the local "good welder" to attach the Sump and a -8 bypass port at the upper front top of the Tank on the passenger side of the sending unit/pick up hole. I did it this way so as to keep the trunk and also an adequate amount of fuel on board. I am using a Quick Star 300 Magna Fuel Pump. This will supply all the fuel I will ever need now and later. I have no desire to run quicker than 10 flat because of the NHRA Tax that accompanies the 9.99 index threshhold.

If you sump it, you will not need the pickup.

I vote sump, I sumped my tank and I like it.

you can make them look nice. I don't like all that stuff hangin' down in the back with a tank sump, didn't have to cut up the trunk at all and I can still get some golf clubs in there..:D..mine is a 10 gal with a gauge

the firewall is no big deal, just a .032 plate of aluminum behind the rear seat....

;)

I think you are weight conscious. One can can ET with power or with a Diet. They both work. Now lightweight and more Power is even better yet. That being said your improvements are well thought out and cleanly executed.

I run a cell.

I like the clean, race car look...matter of fact my trunk looks like Daveys!!

If the OP is really going to be 70% street...I still vote for the sump.

Weight is going to be about the same....

I had mine sumped for a few years. It worked fine other then a leak or two that i had to fix. Kinda depends what you wanna do with the car. I ended up putting a cell in it because at the track any thing over 3/4 of a tank the gas would come out the filler tube and gas the track down.(dont ask how i know this) That and your fuel pump should be below the level of the tank and that makes it hang down a bunch. The cell makes it way easier to work on the rear diff etc way more room under there. I dont miss the trunk space but some probably would. Just my .02
