I just resolved an issue with my mini stater eating starter drives.
The problem: The starter would engage and disengage properly when just bumping the motor over. (worked fine)
After the motor started the starter would not totally disengage. I checked the ignition switch (seemed good)
I checked the shiming of the starter (seemed good)
Finally removed the wires from the solenoid and used a manual starter button to engage the starter.

The cure: What was happening is the starter was releasing correctly even that it appered to be hanging up. I had a wire going to the solenoid from the holley oil pressure safety switch for the electric fuel pump.

I had the normally closed and normally open wires switched around on the safety switch. (Holley switch was very difficult to read the stamping for NC & NO)
Switched the wires around and now the starter works excellent. It was acutally sending juice to the solenoid after the engine started and trying to engage the starter again.

Hope this helps others.

good work. stuff like that can be very hard to run down. like you showed, it usually a matter of isolating and testing.
