I have a 71 Chevelle that was an original 307 car so it has the 5/16 line with the eec system. I need/want to replace the tank, change the line to 3/8, and new sender. Since I do not have all the eec parts I wanted to get rid of it all. Can I use a 1970 tank with a vented cap? is it that easy? I have seen some threads about problems with vented caps and drilling holes in them, what should I know? Any advise would be great!

I replaced the rear to front fuel line w/ stainless 3/8 line. Then I replaced the eec tank w/ a non eec tank and a vented gas cap.
I haven't completed the re-assemble of the Elky, but I've used this configuration on other vehicles and I didn't have problems.

Cool, it seems likes a much simpler and cleaner way to do it.

The only problem you'll have is getting the new 3/8" line between the body and the RR spring perch because lifting the body up leads to a full body off restoration. :D
Body is off. But, not doing a full restoration just the frame and floors. Here are some pics of what I have done so far http://s36.photobucket.com/user/artmalibu/story/5531
