Ok so my last outing I went 11.40 at 115.

Now today I went 11.12 at 117.4mph, also new best 60ft of 1.48

So the new fuel system picked up on the back half and now is gaining 22mph on the back half as opposed to 19mph.

Heres whats throwing me off. The motor feels a little slugish up to 6200, then when it gets past there it is like I hit nitrous. And going through the traps I only get to about 6200.

Also I was having some issues with throwing the belt(running a mech pump and fan). And I know its crazy but it felt like when I threw the belt it would then start to rev faster. I got the belt to stop throwing off and honestly it didnt seem as strong but it still picked up at 6200.

Any idea what would make it feel like the rpm band is way high?

I think the lash is a little loose and will be checking that. I am also gona try lowering the timing(locked at 37).

But hey didnt blow it up and new bests cant complain:D

Heres a video of the last pass of the day, guy running the lights told me to back up had it in reverse then tells me to just make the pass so I just took my time haha. I am not normally that slow on the light:thumbsup:

The car looks like it is running pretty good down low, a 1.48 sixty is really good for a 117 mph car.

It kind of sounds like the carburetor isn't opening up all the way until the engine gets way up in the rpm range. Is there any binding in the carb. linkage or is it a vacuum secondary?

How much HP are you putting out Brian? Looks like it leaves better than it did a year ago

Thanks guys I will look into at the carb linkage again, its a 4150 1000hp mech secondary(could it be air bleeds or anything like that? I have never messed with that before)I will call Patrick to see what the thinks next week. Also I know I am on the loose side so I will tighten it to where Bob was running it.

Here are the two best runs.

This was my first run of the night. I threw the belt on this pass. And spun out of the hole. Also the air was the best during this pass. Jets were 85/92

60ft 1.542
330 4.527
1/8 7.065
mph 96.48
1000 11.192
1/4 11.192
mph 117.60

We decided that it could have been very rich thats why it was slow rpm down low. Changed jets back to what I ran on the 461 which were 80/86. I know a big jump.

This was a little later in the day
60ft 1.483
330 4.437
1/8th 6.986
mph 95.90
1000 9.218
1/4 11.129
mph 117.37

Next pass we went two sizes up and didnt pick up.

Unfortunately I cant keep the rpm up in the good rpm range, and it would be in the slower reving portion of the band for 95% of the run.

When I bought my carb, I mentioned to Patrick that I would be going with alot more motor down the road he said I would be fine as long as I stayed under a 75hp gain.

Could he have adjusted the 1000hp down so thats why it was able to run so well on a basically stock 461? And now it wont run as well on my new motor.

A little yes but you need to compare emulsions too - Let Patrick do that !!

What HP and TQ is the new engine?
Wait I thought I could just take my 1/2" holesaw and fix it:confused:....:D

I tried calling him today but just the answering machine. There was an emergency tech line but I didnt deem this as an emergency.

This baby makes like 800hp/tq to the ground:D, no i duno my guess would be a touch over 600hp/tq on the motor.

From your speeds, the initial jetting looks better to me. The leaner jets likely killed some torque helping you get going from the start, which helped your times.

The 60fts came down because the car hooked you are right there. But unfortunately it hooked because they sprayed the track with VHT finally:cool:

They wont do it on Friday TNTs unless there are very quick cars, or the track is realllly bad.

I know that by dropping 3 jet size's in the front, and 4 jet size's in the rear, I picked up 75 ft/lbs of torque on the chassis dyno that day.

Would lead Me to think maybe trying Bob's idea, of going down , and trying it out.

Ok new idea.

This is somewhat a long shot but easily checkable and would explain everything. When I built the motor I put on an adjustable timing chain. The kinda that can go 6 degrees adv or ret. We installed it straight up.

When we started the motor for the first time there was an odd noise coming from the timing chain area, we stopped to check everything we could in the motor. Started it again and it wasnt nearly as bad. Did this a couple times on/off and so forth. After a minute or two of good run time the sound went away.

Now if somehow the adjustment shifted when we started the motor(we loc-tited and torqued the bolts to spec on the timing chain) the rotation of the motor would retard the timing, and eventually it would not be able to retard anymore causing it to stop moving(the sound would stop).

So if the motor is now 6 degrees retarded( I think thats how much it could possibly go, it might be 12 waiting till monday to talk to Mike Wolfplace about this theory). This would explain why the motor didnt come on hard till high rpm.
