Hey,

I was thinking of converting from race gas to alcohol, what would be the disadvantages and/or advantages and what equipment would I need. I have a holley black pump that said it would work for alcohol and going to purchase a alcohol carb. Any info would help. THanks

Draining the fuel lines are a pain
Setting up a good belt drive system is a pain

If not over 650hp you can get a Pro Systems regulator for ALky and use a Magnafuel or BG race pump, they are compatible with Alky but they dont suggest it

The holley black will work fine with alky, at least for 1/8th mile. I can't say for sure it will work for 1/4 mile or not. I have two friends that run them with alky and both work great for 1/8th mile. A next step up would be something like the Mallory Comp 250, or any of the other higher end pumps. My bet is the black pump will work if the rest of the fuel system is well designed. No draining of lines or carb has been necesary for any of us. We use Klotz KL-100 for top end lube. Generally 1 quart per 54 gallons. I have been pleasantly surprised with running alky. Runs cooler and makes more power and is more consistant than my car on gas. Has been pretty much maintenance free as far as the fuel system. Keep your fuel clean and sealed, and warm up the engine to 180+ when you first start it, and before you shut it off. I would recommend APD, Pro-Systems, Ruppert for a good alky carb. These are the ones most mentioned as being the best. I have first hand experience with Pro-Systems and they work great. Good luck.

I use 1 gallon per pass(1/8th), including burnout, return road, initial warmup etc. At $3.25 per gallon now, it costs me well,... $3.25 per pass. I would otherwise be burning c-12 or c-14 at my 14.3:1 compression ratio. How much would that cost per pass? As stated above, no draining of fuel system has been necessary for me in the 2.5 seasons I have been on alky. I'm sure after 5-10 years I will have to replace some fuel fittings, or.... maybe not.

FWIW,George Ruppert can set up your carb to run on Gasoline to and from the track, and use the same carb on Alcohol at the track! All you need is a big double pump carb to start with.I think he charges around 3 bills for this kind of modification. It's pretty trick too.
To my understanding, the back of the carb is used for gas;while the front is used for Alchohol. This also requires a small cell in the front of the car along with a small elect.fuel pump and a couple ft. of fuel line.I know of several guys around here who have had this done. And it works great.
