Hey guys, i am continuing to prep to install the BBC and am upgrading my fuel system in the process. I went with the Carter 172 Mechanical fuel pump and want to do -8AN line from the tank to fuel pump, and the same to the carb. Two questions then, what are your guys opinions on running braided to the tank, or can i get 1/2 inch tubing from the tank to the fuel pump. Also is it easy to bend or can you get pre-bent stuff? Iv never bent my own lines. If i did use braided, how much would i need ie 20ft? And how would i convert the tank over to attach to braided lines as opposed to standard hard line? Thanks guys?

I did mine in all braided but wish I have used tubing. Braided lines always tend to wick a little gas and leaves a smell if the car is parked in a enclosed space. Do a search, there were several threads on this and others have had the same problem. If you use tubing, buy a tubing bender, it is diffcult to make sharp bends without kinking the tube. Russell makes adapters to convert from hard line to braided

Been there, done that. Call The Right Stuff and ask them very nicely if they will bend up a stock style 1/2 inch fuel line for you. They will do it but you need to catch them on the right day.

You will also need to modify the fuel sending unit to include a 1/2 inch pick up tube. Visit my wagon web site and you'll see how I did it.

I'm finishing up a 3 station hydraulic winch system on one of our boats, 60'er. Bent about 150' of 1/2", 3/4", and 1" stainless for it, got about another 30-40' to go. I'm thinkin' of going with 1/2" .049 wall stainless on the Firebird soon. I'm making up a custom fuel pump for the 455, using a BG BBC pump I have. Parker makes a nice fitting for the hard lines called Ferrulok. It's a compression fitting. You can get -8 for the stainless to 37* flare -8 for your short pieces of hose, makes for a really nice, clean looking system. I'd estimate about $100-150 to plumb a car with the stuff, but it'll be clean.
