Here is what I have done so far. I've done all the testing with the Ohm meter as described in other responses. I have check for bad grounds and the all test positive. My car is a 1970 Chevelle with gauges all other gauges work fine. Is it possible to hook up a wire from the sending units tan wire directly to the gauge? If so looking from the back of the gauge where would attach it so I can test the gauge. Thanks very much.

John I've done the empty test and got 0 Ohm and when full I get 90 Ohms. What wire are you referring to at the gauge. There is a printed circuit board that attaches all the gauges. Thanks I hope this helps. Rodger

I understand how the wire is routed. It's a tan wire that comes into the gage cluster. When you were under the car did you try opening or grounding the tan sender wire? How did the gage respond? Did it go full then empty?

John,

I tired what you said in your last post. When I attach a jumper to the tan wire at the sening unit and then touch a known good ground. The guage does nothing at all. With ignition on or off. What can I try now.

Thanks again

Try the same thing but on the back of the gage.
Check, with your meter, that the gage has a good ground on the black wire. Perhaps a bad connector socket crimp.
Check with your meter that the pink wire has 12 volts on it with the ignition on. Maybe one of those things and not a meter problem.
