hello everyone i have a 1968 chevrolet chevelle ss w bucket seats and i need to know if this car originally had shoulder belts. right now i only have standard front lap belts any info would be greatly appreciated !! thanks geary68

I had a 68 GTO in college and it had the optional shoulder belts that were kept in a metal clip holder above the door windows, so it seems to me that most if not all GM's would have had that option also. Just my two cents. 64elkynss

shoulder belts became available in 1969
The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Act required all 1968 model year cars to have shoulder belts installed for the front driver's and right side passenger seats. There is some debate whether the regulation was effective for the entire 1968 model year or starting in January, 1968.
Headrests were required for cars built after January, 1969, perhaps that's what you were thinking about.;)

I have 68 Chevelle. I have the shoulder belts, but I no longer have the original lap belt which the shoulder belt clipped into.

I'm going to convert these over to a newer 3-point shoulder belt.
