I am new to the chevelle world, and just bought a 64... Body is very sound except for the piece on the lower front of the front fender. It needs replaced and I cannot seem to locate this from sheetmetal vendors.... Is this part not reproduced? any help would be appreciated! thanks!

Welcome to the world of 64's. We are kind of the Ba---- child of the Chevelle world. There are things that are reproduced for every other year that may not be reproduced for 64. The first question is which side do you need? Second, are they so bad that they must be replaced, or were you thinking that it might just be easier to replace them than repair them. While they were manufactured as a seperate piece from the front fender, they were welded to the fender during construction. So, if it's not that bad, you might want to repair what you have.

One more thing, it helps if you add to your profile, so we know where you are located. There are many guys on this site that are able to assist locally, as long as they know where you are.

Ted, mine were bolted together on the El Camino. I have them off right now, had to repair them, basically a whole new lip where it bolts together with the fender.
Strange, mine had a single bolt and were spot welded.

Thanks for the info guys... I am starting to see that we are the red=headed stepchildren of the chevelle family... but that is OK, just makes it all the more rewarding. Anyway, I need the driver's side extension. I believe it is bolted on, and what is left is in pretty bad shape. Seems like most parts are reproduced for this year though, why that piece would be left out escapes me. Also, anyone know if they make the "ribbed" trim panels that go across the trunk and in between the taillights...???? thanks again for your help

Ted, I just checked my assembly manual, you're right. It's supposed to be spot welded in 4 places. Being that mine were both kind of rotted, that would indicate they were bolted together in the past by a p.o.

Yep... a lot of pieces aren't made for this year. I had to patch in areas on mine. In fact the piece your talking about I ended up welding in solid and filling in the gap to make it one piece. Good luck in your searce! And I think the 64 is a very unique chevelle

Thanks Smoke65.....It was a lot of fun, but I did have help when it came to doing some of the body work. I guess the best compliment I got recently was someone painting there chevelle with the same two tone paint scheme. The difference is his will be green on the bottom. But he did say he saw my car at the Detroit Autorama and that's what inspired him. So that's pretty cool
