the monte frames are not interchangeable. I am positive that you can use 68 to 72 Chevelle skylark or cutlass 2 door frames. I have interchanged them for sure. basically any of the mid sized gm 2 door cars. yes a 4 door will NOT work 4 door are longer in the middle section. convertibles have boxed frames rails. you can use a convertible frame but the crossmember and brake & fuel lines are different. that's why brob just told you the big engine Buick and skylark are not interchangeable they used the convertible frames because they are heavier duty. and don't even confuse the issue of el caminos and wagon frames. they will not work either on a 2 door car or 4 door. how ever for those of you who want to know you can put an elky frame on a wagon with the same differences elkys are boxed so different crossmember and brake & fuel lines. but do not reverse a wagon frame to an elky the quarter panels will buckle. an elky does not have the roof support of a wagon. tomsvar, what section in the back half do you mean are you thinking of cutting a frame in half and patching it back. I would highly recommend not doing that unless you are talking about either in front of the front suspension or behind the rear suspension. the in-between part is too structural to mess with for the risk. you can find a good frame and be way better off. trust me on this. where are you I have spare frames for a 68-72 Chevelle. let me know and if I can answer questions. e-mail me if I do not respond . Thanks for the info you answered a lot of questions. The part of the frame I really need is where the lower rear control arms attach to the frame. that small dog leg arm that hangs of the inside of the frame both sides are cracked from a previous owner who must of had ladder bars on it. So I am looking for that section to piece in. about 4-6" front and back of the arm. I am having a professional weld it all in place. I live in Upstate NY near Albany.

I think Dave at 909 865 7721 has the pieces you are looking for. Shipping might be cost prohibitive from So Calif.

I have called Dave before he has never returned my calls. Only talk to him at a SWAP meet. Someone one else was looking for similar parts a few week ago.

Good Luck

I am about 90 minutes south of Albany, and I have a good frame for sale if you want to do a replacement instead of repair. I also have donor frames for the sections if you only want pieces. Email me if you are interested.
