Anyone ever attempt to fabricate hinges to allow the hood to tilt forward? I have a new fiberglass hood that I am contemplating a forward tilt mounting system for. I believe it can be done- but at what cost. The benefits for me will be better engine access. Being the size of Sasquatch is not always fun when working on engines. Any thoughts of doing something like this?
Here is a kit they make for newer Camaros: 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 Camaro Reverse Tilt Hood Kit by HALO

I'm sure it could be done, but like you said at what cost, but then again, if it makes it more convenient / easier for you to work on the car, does the cost really matter? YOLO (You Only Live Once) as my kids used to tell me.

I am looking into some ideas of what others have used as a starting point. Some say a 91 Buick Lesabre are good to start with, might be a fun project... and it might end up banging my head on more than a hood.

I think the only way to overcome that is to lift the hood (elevate it) at the same time it's opening. Best I can figure is when tilting forward is to lift up and over the header and hold it there with hydraulic.

I've owned a vega (350) and I liked the hood tilting forward. Made working on the engine much easier and it had full light from the garage. I've always used fender wraps to cover the paint anyways.

I don't know anyone that has tried this, but when I read this post, my first thought was those front drive full size 90's Buicks. That someone already mentioned on this post. That design moves the hood up in front, then forward some, then the hood tilts forward from the rear. It doesn't pivot from the grill, rather forward and in front of the grill once it's open. Same basic body shell as the other GM brands which makes me think if you could find a Buick in a junk yard and then find another non-Buick version you could figure out how the conventional hood works on that body shell version the Buick clamshell version. Might show you what needs to change from your own conventional hood to the clamshell. Following this one.

I thought about this for my 66 but eventually decided it was too much for me. I did however get as far as getting a forward tilt hood bracket assembly from a 90’s Buick. It’s been hanging in my garage for a few years. Your welcome to it but shipping would be a problem.
I see your in FAR Northern CA. I’m just east of SF if you can figure out how to pick it up, it’s yours.

Hey thank you! That sounds like the route I'd like to try at this point. I can probably arrange that pick up! I have a good friend in Dublin. He is headed up to my place in Redding in a few weeks or so. I'll let him know and get back to you.(y)
