when bolting my converter to the fly wheel, the holes in the wheel are almost as large as the bolt head. do i use washers to fix this or am i missing something here? i don't want the bolt to be pulled through by the converter. thanks!

Get the correct bolts they are special for that purpose.

I don't recall the bolt holes being that large. I'm wondering if the holes aren't elongated or badly worn from the bolts being installed too loosely at some time in the past. There's usually just enough clearance between the bolts and bolt holes so you can make the conveter rattle when you try to move it, but the holes shouldn't be almost as large as the heads.

And simple things first; make sure you have the correct size bolt.

So you know when you go to the parts store for the right bolts, torgue converters are bolted to the flex plate. Fly wheels are for manual transmission's and is what the clutch plate fits uo to.

The correct bolts are available from Mr. Gasket, ARP, and others. If you can't find a store that has them try a transmission shop.
