Went to my first Five Guys Burgers today and I got to say I don't see myself or the wife going back. First, cost me $5.99 for a double patty burger with cheese and bacon alone. Fries and drink extra. Total cost for me and the wife 1 regular burger (two patties) 1 small burger (one patty), 2 drinks, shared a large fry, $19.91! Holy crap!

Had all of these recommendations from different press organizations. Inlcuding "Heaven on a Bun" from Tampa Tribune. Nothing outstanding about the burger, yes it was good, but way overpriced. Fries were allful, tased more like salt than any thing. Very dissappointed.
Would not recommend to anyone. We should have stuck with are original plan to go to Chipotle for have the price!

The one by us is always busy. The burgers are pretty good.
As far as expensive, only if you are comparing to McDonalds dollar menu.
Most of the good burger places I go to, a hamburger is closer to $10 to $12.
What is it you were expecting?
It's a fried hamburger and fries, you didn't go to a steak house. :noway:

I love their burgers - whenever I have the misfortune of having to layover in the Washington, D.C. airport (couple of times a year) I always look forward to a big sloppy burger and fries.
For their size and flavor I don't think they are overpriced. Any sit-down restaurant around here prices their burgers at 8 bucks or more. To get a big juicy meal in the food court of a large city airport for under 10 bucks is a relative deal.

A couple of years ago I was at the D.C. airport and everyone in that area of the food court had one of their burgers......I watched as some folks who were probably in the US for the very first time stared at the burgers being served with absolute astonishment. The group looked like a poor extended family from a third-world country - probably central Africa - carrying all their worldly possesions and the looks on their faces was indeed thought-provoking. They might never have seen food portions that large in their lives. I wish I could understand what they were saying, but I knew what they were thinking.....Cheeseburger in Paradise.

The way food prices have gone up in the last several months....$20 for a full-belly take out meal is now normal. At least the Five Guys burgers will be enough chow to get through a whole day of travelling - I usually won't need to eat again until the next day after one of their doubles. :)

If you can buy all that someplace else for ten bucks, I'd make sure you were close to a bathroom because I see a severe case of e. coli in your future. :D

I enjoyed my visits there, but do not make any fast food a regular part of my diet.

Isn't there a 5 Guys Burger joint in one of the Washington D.C. airports? I am pretty sure I had one there a few years back while traveling and it was about the best burger I ever had. And at an airport, no less. However, they opened up a 5 Guys in a town near me more recently and I have to say it was a bit disappointing. One thing about them is you can go in there with 4 people and get one order of fries to split and there will be more than enough.

Their fries are too salty. The last time I was there, I asked if I could get fries with no salt. They said "no problem". Had to wait a few extra minutes, but it was worth it. I love real fries.

Their burgers are damn good.

I agree 100%. Picked some up for lunch for me and a buddy at work and it was 20 bucks. When we were done we thought the same thing, could have gone to the tavern down the street, had a better burger and washed them down with a couple suds for 25 bucks.

If I'm going to spend 10 bucks on a GOOD burger & fries I'll go to Red Robin.

5 Guys is OK. The first time I ate their I went with my son and we decided to split a large order of fries not knowing that you could feed a small country with a large order.

My favorite place is a little produce stand 45 minutes from my house. Their pumpkin butter is apparently one of Oprah's favorites. How she found it I have no idea. I will drive 45 minutes to eat the Blue cheese and bacon burger basket. It comes with either cole slaw or potato salad and a drink for about $8.95. The produce is all fresh off the farm when in season and the pickles are their own. Don't get me started on their apple pies....Dammit, now I'm hungry again!

I haven't tried 5 Guys yet. But, I've been spoiled.

I lived in SoCal, so In-N-Out burgers were common. They stand as the best chain burger I've ever had. Love 'em, and miss 'em, and have 'em in Las Vegas whenever I go.

Now I live in Minneapolis, and they take burgers very seriously here. There are many local haunts boasting awesome burgers- most are superior to any chain offering. The legendary "Lion's Tap" isn't too far, and they have excellent burgers (and 1919 root beer on tap- awesome).

I might try a 5 Guys burger eventually, but I'm not in any hurry. The standard is pretty high already.

I'm glad so many people don't like their food. More for me. Seriously though, I very much enjoy the food there and don't really have a problem with the pricing. As long as they are still in business, I'll keep going back. No matter where you go, someone is always going to say that another place is better. In this case, I would have to say that those who don't like the food are the minority because the locations here in my town (about 6 I can think of) are always busy.

In Key West we stopped at a little joint recommended by a beat cop. 2 fish sandwiches, no fries or extra's, 2 beers = $34.00! And they took so long I had to order another beer!

:) Obviously, you are not familar with the South. A lot of things are done in a slow manner down there, and is nothing like the insane, high-speed rate things are done up North. It's an "easy going" lifestyle. :beers:
