My family had a get together and the Ole Timers started talking about the first time drove or had ridden a car with power brakes,,,, One said you could see the teeth marks in the dash for years after his mother put his brother in the dash.
Another hated to ride with his dad for the first few days,,, be on the floor at every stop.

I thought it was humorous,,,,

I guess power brakes came before seatbelts. :)

A case of one technology comming out before the rest of technology is able to support it.

First time I drove the Elky with the 605 steering box I had to ask myself...."Can I really fit into that parking spot at the angle I'm at?"

Then there was the first time I hit the brakes after the PDB conversion. I almost ended up with a sucking chest wound because of the steering wheel.

Then again, once I got used to both of those? MAGIC!!! :D

My first car was a 54 Chevy, took til tomorrow to stop. The next car was my Mom's old 62 Buick Special. It had power Brakes which I had not experienced yet. Jumped in at the curb and took off. Two blocks down the street, the first stop sign. Well being used to braking hard and early I hit the pedal with the same force I would have in the old Chevy. Needless to say piled my girlfriend into the floor and gave myself a bloody nose and black eye from the steering wheel! You know, I've driven about everything there is out there and have never had brakes as touchy as that little Buick had!

think thats old timer?...my grandpa used to tell us about how he was one of the first in the region to use pnuematic tractor tires and how the goodyear honchos were all out standing in his field checking to see how the new fangled skins worked out...btw, in case you were wondering, they were a vast improvement and caught on proportionately.

I remember my father driving an automatic for the first time. He'd jump on the brake instead of the clutch and reach for the shifter that wasn't there for the first couple of hours till he got used to it, lucky it had seatbelts !

I drove a friend's 68 Buick GS with manual drums for a few hours. You had to plan your stops. When I got back in my wife's 02 Regal I just about launched myself into the steering wheel pulling up to a stop sign. Technology is great!

what's more fun is watching someone who's never experienced 4 wheel manual drum brakes drive an old Chevelle.
and it's even better if it has a 3 on the tree..
